Education Cannot Be Bargained At Your Cost
COLLEGE ADMISSION BRIBERY SCANDALS
"In making the education means easier is a noble job"
But what if I tell you that what happens when those people who are responsible for making the future of our world by preparing the right selection of the candidates in the colleges and the different universities are actually being unethical with their job.It is hard to know where to begin with the big story of cheating and bribery in order to gain admission to elite universities.
United States Of America:-
You can't even believe in a country like United States Of America has experienced one of the major educational bribery scandal in 2019.In 2019, a scandal arose over a criminal conspiracy to influence undergraduate admissions decisions at several top American universities. The investigation into the conspiracy was nicknamed Operation Varsity Blues. The investigation and related charges were made public on March 12, 2019, by United States federal prosecutors. At least people have been charged as part of the conspiracy, a number of whom have pled guilty or agreed to plead guilty. Thirty-three parents of college applicants are accused of paying more than $25 million between 2011 and 2018 to William Rick Singer, organizer of the scheme, who used part of the money to fraudulently inflate entrance exam test scores and bribe college officials.
Singer controlled the two firms involved in the scheme, Key Worldwide Foundation and The Edge College & Career Network (also known as "The Key"). He pled guilty and cooperated with the Federal Bureau Of Investigation in gathering incriminating evidence against co-conspirators . He said he unethically facilitated college admission for children in more than 750 families. Singer faces up to 65 years in prison, and a fine of $1.25 million.
Allegations:-
So, there were different allegations for which William Rick Singer was accused for:
- He was under allegations for bribing exam administrators to facilitate cheating on college and university entrance exams.
- He was also accused for bribing coaches and administrators of elite universities to nominate unqualified applicants as elite recruited athletes, thus facilitating the applicants' admission.
- For using a charitable organisations to conceal the source and nature of laundered bribery payments.
Court documents unsealed in March 2019 detail a scheme led by William Rick Singer, a 58-year-old resident of Newport beach California. Wealthy parents paid Singer to illegally arrange to have their children admitted to elite schools by bribing admissions testing officials, athletics staff, and coaches at universities. Payments were made to Key Worldwide Foundation, a non profit organisations owned by Singer and previously granted 501 status; that status allowed him to avoid federal income taxes on the payments, while parents could deduct their "donations" from their own personal taxes. Singer offered college counseling services as The Edge College & Career Network, a limited liability company registered in 2012, which he operated out of his home in Newport Beach.

Some of the impacts of these kind of unethicalEducational scandals:-
There has been lots of talk about the negative effects of corruption on the education system, such as low quality education, unqualified teachers, mismanagement of public funds, excessive bureaucratic burdens and so forth. Despite the fact that these cases provide important insights into the prevalence and complexity of corruption in the education system, there seems to be little discussion on how corruption might affect students’ behaviour and opinions.
Beside a large pool of skilled labor. The world also needs a hardworking young population that strongly values work and uses its knowledge and skills to achieve the best results. Young ones should also be encouraged to believe that hard work will greatly help them to get to where they want to be in terms of their future career. However, corruption seriously undermines such attitudes and beliefs. For example, if corruption is left uncontrolled in the education system, and students are able to bribe their teachers to get good grades or pass school exams, there are no incentives for them to work as hard as they should. Exams are designed to assess students’ ability and give them the incentives to learn their subjects. But instead, they are used as a tool for teachers and students to pursue their personal ends at the expense of a high quality education.
The Missing Ethics:-
- Honesty with the job.
- Wrong selection of the students, not in the basis of intelligence or educational qualifications.
- Missing the right talent.
